Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, the easiest timing a family could ask for. Jim Thorpe is holding trick-or-treat two days early anyway, on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. The borough posted that date in its fall events notice in September. The notice gives no reason. It lists the date alongside hydrant flushing and leaf collection.
That says something about how Halloween runs here. Each borough and township sets its own night and hours, usually by a council vote, so the county doesn't share a calendar. Put those decisions side by side and Carbon County trick-or-treat covers three different evenings with three different start-and-end windows. Neighboring towns across the Lehigh add a fourth night. The weekend before Halloween turns out to be busier than Halloween itself.
The nights, town by town
The Times News Halloween roundup, published Oct. 9, collects the local schedules. Where a borough has posted its own notice, the times match.
| Night | Hours | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday, Oct. 28 | 6–8 p.m. | Slatington and Walnutport, across the Lehigh in neighboring Lehigh County |
| Thursday, Oct. 29 | 6–8 p.m. | Jim Thorpe |
| Friday, Oct. 30 | 6–8 p.m. | Lehigh Township |
| Saturday, Oct. 31 | 5–7 p.m. | Lansford |
| Saturday, Oct. 31 | 5–8 p.m. | West Penn Township |
| Saturday, Oct. 31 | 6–8 p.m. | Coaldale, Eldred Township, Lehighton, Nesquehoning, Palmerton, Rush Township, Summit Hill, Towamensing Township, Weatherly |
Jim Thorpe is the only Carbon County borough on the list that left Oct. 31 behind completely. Its Thursday evening comes five days after the Lions Club Halloween Parade, which the borough has scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m., with Oct. 25 as the rain date.
On Saturday, the start time matters
Most of the county starts at 6 p.m. on the 31st. Two places don't.
Lansford starts an hour early and finishes at 7 p.m. Council set those hours at its September meeting, as reported in the Times News council summary. The same summary has a second Oct. 31 detail for Lansford residents. Casella Waste Systems' fall Town Cleanup covers the west side of town that day, from Springgarden Street to Ashton Park. The east side gets its turn on Oct. 24.
West Penn Township starts at 5 p.m. like Lansford but runs until 8 p.m., the longest window on the list.
Weatherly is the one borough that posted a house rule along with its hours. Its trick-or-treat page asks residents who are giving out treats to leave their porch lights on, borough-wide, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The practical upshot: a household in Lansford and one in Lehighton both celebrate on Oct. 31, but Lansford's doors are closing around the time Lehighton's are opening.
Oct. 24 has more on it than Halloween does
Halloween night is mostly an hour or two of trick-or-treating. The Saturday before it is when the organized events land, many at the same time. Here is that day in order, using the organizers' published times. Costume contests, rain dates and vendor counts change, so check each host's page before you go.
- 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Country Junction, Lehighton. The Great Pocono Pumpkin Festival has pumpkin picking, games, hayrides, a 3D pumpkin fun house and laser tag. Tickets are sold online.
- 1 to 3 p.m., Cornerstone Community Church, 388 Polk Township Road, Kunkletown. This one sits just over the county line. The free Fall Harvest Fest and Trunk-or-Treat includes games, crafts, face painting, a story walk, a bounce house and a bake sale. It also doubles as an Operation Christmas Child collection drive, and anyone who brings a donation gets a free bake sale item.
- 2 p.m., two parades at once. The Jim Thorpe Lions Club parade and the Greater Weatherly Area Community Chest's annual Halloween Parade step off at the same hour. Weatherly registration opens at 1 p.m. at Tweedle Park on High Street. Participants are asked not to park in front of the park so floats can line up there. The route runs from High Street to Franklin Street, then West Main Street and Plane Street, over the bridge past the old borough building, and ends at Eurana Park. Prizes, candy and refreshments are handed out at the park. Weatherly's rain date is Oct. 25.
- 2 to 10 p.m., 165 South 1st Street, Lehighton. The 2026 Witches Midnight Market is an open-air festival with more than 150 vendors, food trucks, restaurants, live music, a DJ and a costume contest. There's no entry fee.
- 2 to 5 p.m., Towamensing fire company, 105 Firehouse Road, Palmerton. Trunk-or-treat plus pumpkin carving and painting contests, with food for sale from Griff's Grub. Contest registration closed Oct. 15. Trick-or-treaters and spectators get in free.
- 5 to 8 p.m., Germantown Grove, 800 Laurel St., Jim Thorpe. A trunk-or-treat with a hayride through the Grove.
- Evening, Harry Packer Mansion, Jim Thorpe. The 1920s Mystery show starts with appetizers at 5 p.m., dinner at 5:30 and the show from 6 to 8 p.m. It's limited to guests 21 and older.
Jim Thorpe families get two parts of their Halloween on that Saturday, the parade at 2 and the Germantown Grove hayride at 5. Then they wait until Thursday for their own trick-or-treat night. Lehighton families can spend the afternoon at the Witches Midnight Market and still have a full week before their 6 p.m. start on the 31st.
Jim Thorpe drivers have one more thing to plan around. The borough's fall festival traffic pattern in the Heights section runs on weekends only, from Oct. 2 through Nov. 16, so it overlaps with the parade weekend.
Sunday and the weeknights in between
The events don't stop after Saturday night. Each of the next few days has something on it.
Sunday, Oct. 25. Penn Forest Recreational Park, 1336 Route 903, Jim Thorpe, hosts a free trunk-or-treat from 1 to 3 p.m., rain or shine. It's open to all ages and includes candy, pumpkins, prizes and a best-decorated-vehicle contest. People who want to decorate a trunk can email [email protected].
Sunday is also the last regular date for SPOOKTACULAR!, Cirque-tacular Productions' all-ages Halloween circus show. It runs about 50 minutes in the Victorian ballroom of the Mauch Chunk Museum & Cultural Center at 41 West Broadway and costs $17 per person. Performances are listed for Oct. 22, the day this post comes out, as well as Oct. 24 and 25. Oct. 29 and 30 are listed as possible bonus dates, so check the ticket page.
Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 31. The Waldorf Estate of FEAR at Country Junction in Lehighton runs from 7 to 11 p.m. The Pocono Mountains visitors bureau guide quotes the attraction's own warning, "This isn't kids' stuff!" Attractions include Terror in the Corn and a Zombie Escape Room. Tickets are sold online, or with cash only at the door.
Through Nov. 14. The Jim Thorpe Rotary's Ghost Walks in Old Mauch Chunk keep running after the costumes are put away. Walks start at 7 or 8:30 p.m. depending on the night and cost $18 for ages 13 and up and $7 for children. The listing says the walks aren't recommended for children under seven and encourages registering ahead.
Put together, the stretch from Oct. 24 to Oct. 31 has something organized almost every day. On Thursday and Friday, the only trick-or-treat happening in the county is in Jim Thorpe and Lehigh Township.
After the candy
Jim Thorpe's same fall notice lists the next items on the borough calendar. Fall leaf collection runs Nov. 2 through 20, and electronics and tire recycling is Saturday, Nov. 7, from 7 to 11 a.m. In Lansford, the next scheduled event is a Tree Lighting in Kennedy Park, approved for Dec. 1 through 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. and hosted by Friends of Lansford Recreation and Lansford Alive.
The Times News says it will keep updating its roundup as organizers send in details. Check it once more before the 24th, along with your own borough's page if you live somewhere not listed above.
At Cass Chies and Diamond 1st Real Estate, we pay attention to the details that change from one borough to the next, from a Thursday trick-or-treat night to an earlier start time on Halloween itself.
